Portable Portico
The Bartlett School of Architecture, 2017
Portable Portico was a two-week summer school exploring performance, observation, and fabrication. Each student was allocated a 1 × 1 m “patch” of UCL’s classical Portico in the main quad, which they surveyed through drawing and modelling before developing into wearable reinterpretations. The course emphasised close observation, site survey, and large-scale fabrication, drawing inspiration from a backstage tour of the National Theatre to connect architectural abstraction with set and costume design. The project culminated in a performative parade, where the students returned their wearable models to the Portico in a collective reimagining of the site.
