Crowd Clad Chalet

Developed for the UCL It’s All Academic Festival, The Crowd Clad Chalet explored how collective memory can be transformed into built form. In a public workshop, participants used a Renaissance drawing device to translate their digital memories—archived on their smartphones—into physical roof shingles. Throughout the day, these individually produced elements were added to the open timber frame of the chalet. Gradually, the structure evolved into an enclosed shelter, clad in crowdsourced shapes that embodied the collective memories of its makers.
